Exciting Worship Events
I am so blessed to share with you the wonderful and exciting things that will be happening in worship over the next few weeks. This Sunday we have new members joining in both services. We also will be baptizing Stella Dean Smock in the 11:00 service. We will be considering Peace in the midst of joy as we focus on Mary’s Song from the scriptures.
On Sunday Dec. 10th at 2 pm, we will be gathering in the Chapel for the Celebration of Life for Pam Powell. The family has asked people to wear bright colors in honor of their mother. We will be live streaming the service on YouTube as well. Reception will follow in the Upper Hallway.
On Dec. 16th, we will celebrate the life of Sue Sensintaffer in the Sanctuary at 2 pm. I have a created a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help us host this service. The Vahles and the Nicars will be helping to host a reception in the Great Hall after the service. I am looking for folks to help make cookies and to take meals to Jerry and his family as they come in for the service. Click here to help.
On Sunday Dec. 17th, we will only be having ONE worship service at 10:00 am that will be a special Christmas Music Experience. Last year was the first time that we had this type of service and it was very well received. All of our music groups in the congregation will be offering their gifts and talents in worship as we sing praise to the Holy. The children, the youth praise band, the adult praise band, the Chancel choir and the bell choir will all be leading us. DeRon Gabriel will be offering both vocal and musical talent. EJ Smock will be leading us in one of our favorite Christmas hymns and Patty will be offering her gifts as well. We have readers and singers and scriptures and prayers and so so much more! I know that you won’t want to miss it and won’t it be wonderful to be all together in one service as the Body of Christ.
On Thursday Dec. 21st, we will be in the Chapel at 5:00 pm for the Blue Christmas Service. This night is sometimes called the Longest Night. Our service recognizes that not everyone is joyful during the holidays and offers a place of peace and assurance. It also reminds us as we gather that we are not alone in struggling during this season. It can be especially meaningful for those who have had a loss of job, relationship or loved one. This service will also be live streamed.
And of course, I have to mention Christmas Eve which is on a Sunday this year. We will be having a contemporary Family Service that morning at 10:00 am which includes a special Children’s sermon. This will be the only service that morning. That evening we will have a Traditional Candlelight Communion Service of carols and scriptures at 6 pm. We have a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help us lead this service here. We will have nursery care for both the morning worship service and the evening worship service.
It should be a busy and Holy time for us over the next few weeks. Tonight I am hosting our wonderful staff at my home for a time of good food and fun away from the office!
Blessed,
