40 Days of Lenten Discipline

A lot of people don’t like the word discipline because it evokes the idea that someone else is punishing you for getting out of line. But Lenten discipline is the understanding that you are going to be faithful during these 40 days (plus Sundays) to certain ways that help you grow closer to Jesus. Pastor Kim preached on Ash Wednesday that we have to cross the lines that keep us held back from the cross and Jesus. We can only grow spiritually by being intentional. So this year we have come up with many ways for you to be a disciple during Lent.

1) This one is simple. Read the gospel of Luke. I will be preaching from it during this season.

2) Wear a wooden cross during this season. If someone asks you about it or is interested in why you are wearing it, explain to them about Faith and offer them the cross. You can pick up another one at church.

3) Sign up for a 4 week class. We have 3 options in this email for you to be intentional about learning.

4) Do the daily devotions that the church staff is providing for you. We will send these out every Friday and you can pick them up on Sundays. They are short and easy but provide discussion starters and questions for reflection.

One thing that I know for sure is that without discipline, you can never be a great musician, an excellent athlete or any other thing that you do. To truly equip yourself, you must be intentional and you must practice. Practice being faithful and disciplined this Lent. The blessings that you will receive will far exceed the sacrifice.

You can do this Faith. We will do this together.

Grace,
