Back to School Edition

August is here and all eyes are focused on this season of transition for teachers, students, staff and volunteers in our schools. We are excited to be celebrating both our teachers and children in special events. Everyone is invited on August 13th to the Great Hall at 10:00 am to say a blessing prayer over the students, teachers and school staff. We will be passing out backpack tags with encouraging words on them. We are also asking the teachers in our congregation to send me 3 things from their classroom wish list that we will be lifting up to the congregation. Please email me your item links on Amazon and I will add them to our master list.

And I know that you have probably heard of the August 11th Block Party that we host for the neighborhood in this back to school season. The church is providing a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, live music, yard games and Josh’s Snow Cones for free. Bring your lawn chair or blanket to set on the lawn. Food trucks will be available for purchasing dinner. Right now our greatest need for volunteers is Friday morning at 8:00 to help set up shade tents and an eating area. It usually takes about a dozen people to do it quickly. There is some heavy lifting of tables and chairs. Please click here to sign up.

As school begins again, we are also kicking off all of our fall classes and support groups. We have an interesting array of choices for all ages. The kids and youth will begin their Wednesday night programming on August 23rd from 6:30-8:00 pm. The Chancel Choir and Bell Choir will resume rehearsing and would love for new people to join them. I will be teaching “Jesus In The Gospels” on Wednesday nights as well. Email me if you would like to join this class and I will order you the work book. Please go to the connect pag.faithtulsa.org/connecte to see the other wonderful groups that will be starting. There are too many to name here!

During this season, we will be exploring the role of testimony and witness in our worship services. Sometimes these words make us cringe because we have heard that without one of these great rescue stories that we aren’t really a good enough Christian. I used to wonder as I listened to these amazing testimonies that maybe there was something wrong with me. But I have discovered that there are a lot of people like me who grew up with their faith and it developed, morphed and grew as they grew. And this witness is valid and worthy of being shared as well. Let’s explore how to share our faith stories with each other during August.

Grace and peace,
