Sermon on the Plain
This Sunday is the first of the month and we will be having Communion in both services. It will also be the last sermon in the Fill My Cup sermon series. Beginning on Feb. 9th, we will begin our Sermon on the Plain focus. The name doesn’t mean that the sermon is lacking or basic, it means that it was delivered by Jesus in a field. This text from the gospel of Luke is one that surprises people because most of us have learned about the Sermon on the Mount, but few of us are familiar with Luke’s Sermon on the Plain. In chapter six of the gospel, we find this story.
We will be using this scripture for three weeks focusing on different sections of the text. We will begin with the Blessings that Jesus mentions in his sermon. Then we will be moving to the Woes or warnings for the people listening and finally we will focus on Love & Mercy. I look forward to this time digging deeply in this sermon of Jesus’
I had the pleasure of meeting with the pastors of the twelve largest United Methodist churches in the state of Oklahoma yesterday. It was a time to share resources, focus our ministries in each of our context and dream about new models of ministry. Pastor Charla hosted us in Stillwater and it was good to see her again. We came up with some exciting ideas and challenges for the future church. We also worshiped together and I enjoyed being a participant rather than the leader of worship. I am excited about future collaborations with these other churches.
I pray that you are taking care of yourself. I understand that Oklahoma is a hot spot right now for the flu. I encourage you to wash your hands regularly and avoid people with flu like symptoms.
See you Sunday!
