Fill My Cup

This Sunday we will introduce a new song at the 11:00 o’clock service. I will also be using some of the lyrics from this song as the Call to Worship at the 9:00 o’clock service. When I had decided to do the new year’s sermon series around this song, I remember thinking that we sing it all the time. So I was really excited to pair the stories of abundance from the gospels with the music. When I mentioned it to Jonathon his response was “we have never sung that song in worship before.” What!?! How can that be? He then proceeded to tell me that we sang it everyday at church camp for the last two years. OH……. He also told me that he had planned to introduce it to the congregation at some point but hadn’t done it yet. So it all worked out. You will be introduced to a new song about God’s abundance filling us when life is hard. The youth will get to sing a song that they already know from church camp. It is easy to sing and I hope that you will find it to be a balm to your soul. For those of you at the 9:00 service, we will not be singing it but we will be learning about the theology of the song lyrics through the sermons and other elements of worship. If you would like to learn the song before Sunday or just check it out, click here.

This Sunday’s theme is “Fill My House Up With Hope” and we will be reading the story of Jesus as a wedding guest who turns the water into wine when they run out. In this social crises, Mary knows that Jesus can make it better. She has faith that he can fix what is wrong. As Christians, sometimes we spend so much time and energy trying to do everything ourselves. We are invited to consider offering up our worries and heartaches for Jesus to help. At the same time, we shouldn’t be surprised when the Holy Spirit moves in a situation and unexpected results happen. We have to ask ourselves if we really believe in the abundance and fullness of God? Do we give ourselves time and spiritual practices to allow ourselves to be filled? Are we truly trying to deepen our faith and understanding? I invite you to take this journey with us for the next couple of weeks.

We are working on our end of year documents that we turn into the UMC to show how we are doing. Two of the questions that we are asked are how many people are involved in missions and justice work in the community. If you are serving in a non-profit or school in some way, I ask you to let us know so we can share accurate information. This information can also be used as we apply for grants for some of our ministries. Click here to report your community service hours outside the building. Your staff will report the information for inside the building volunteers. Thank you so much for all the ways that you make a difference in the church and the world.

AS you get out of the house on this beautifully cold Friday, please be careful out there. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.

Love you,
