Faith@Night Light Tulsa
Last night I was privileged to represent you at Night Light Tulsa. This incredible ministry serves our neighbors struggling with homelessness. Faith was the food sponsor for the night. Our mission committee paid for all of the groceries that provided the dinner that was served. (Because of your generosity in the giving of your tithes.) We delivered the 200 backpacks that over sixty people packed in twenty minutes on Wednesday evening. We gathered under a bridge in downtown Tulsa for the privilege of meeting these neighbors and loving on them with simple things like a smile and asking their names.
Other services under the bridge were a foot washing station, a book station, a clothing area, popcorn and drinks. I can’t tell you how many people were served because they were allowed to come through the line to get their hamburger as many times as they liked. Our team of volunteers served the food, served the drinks and gave away the backpacks. There were only 17 of us and that included 3 children and two teens. And what a great time we had! I was struck by two things. The first was how thankful our neighbors were for the food and care that we provided. The second was how diverse the group of people were. We honestly couldn’t tell who was a guest and who was a volunteer. The kind of faith that was expressed by those who came through the food line in front of me was astounding. The smiles in the midst of home insecurity were humbling. I wish you could have all experienced it. Wait! You can. Night Light Tulsa does this EVERY Thursday all year long regardless of the weather. The volunteer that coordinated the food we served has been doing this for almost nine years. Nine years! Can you imagine? Oh how his life has been blessed.
If you ever wished you could go on a mission trip, I invite you to do that. Take a trip to downtown Tulsa. Meet your neighbors. Ask their names. Listen to their story. You will be blessed.
See your Sunday!
