Holiday Fun & Bizarre Bible Stories
Many of you are packing your bags and planning your travel for the holiday weekend with the 4th of July happening on Monday. We will pray for your safety in route and also if you handle any fireworks. My uncle was an emergency room doctor for thirty five years and he told gruesome stories about the people who came in every year from injuries caused by mishandling of the explosives. I know none of you will attempt anything silly or dangerous. : )
DON”T FORGET WE ONLY HAVE ONE SERVICE this weekend at 10 AM. It is a communion Sunday so if you are not at the church, please plan for something to have as your elements to eat and drink and join us online. This Sunday is also our first Pot Luck event since before the pandemic. We are offering two options 1) if you have a special diet or want to stay safe from germs, bring lunch for yourself or your family. 2) if you are willing to share the buffet, please bring a dish and we will all nibble on each other’s gastric creations. Some of my favorite dishes at church pot lucks are cheesy potatoes and fluff! I’m not sure what is in fluff but I have seen it in many colors with many different things stirred into it as surprise texture. It’s classified as a salad but I think the main ingredient is cool whip so I don’t understand that at all. I haven’t decided what I am bringing yet but I am looking forward to being in community to visit with you and just hang out.
I am excited about the sermon series for July that we will begin on the 10th-Bizarre Bible Stories. I was wanting something fun and even a little lighthearted. So I will be preaching on texts from the Bible that no one will touch because they are so strange. As I was preparing, I ended up with stories all that involve animals. So we will begin in the Hebrew Bible with a Mama Bear who attacks children who tease a bald man, then explore a talking donkey and a sword drawing angel. Then we will move into the New Testament and tackle the text from the gospel of Mark about poisonous snake handling as a measure of faith and end with suicidal pigs who are filled with demons. Fun, right? Please join us for these interesting and rarely considered scriptures.
Lastly, we are already planning our back to school events and classes to be offered in the fall. My how time flies. My family will be gone this weekend so I look forward to curling up with my cat Fatty and a good book.
Be safe out there,
