Confirmation Sunday
Last year I told Mark Fowler that having Confirmation Sunday the week after Easter was exhausting because we had all the interviews with the students to get in. Well, guess what we have been doing all week. You guessed it, confirmation interviews! The students have been so lovely and I always enjoy being with them. They act like they have been called to the principal’s office though. You can certainly tell the difference between the kids who hang out at the church and the ones who do not based on their willingness to talk. I always schedule an hour so they have plenty of time to ask any burning questions that they may have. Only one student actually asked any question, but it was a really good question.
The student interviews are pretty much the same as meeting with any prospective member. We go over the words of the vows to make sure that they understand what they are committing to. We fill in the form with their information for the directory and ministries. We give them a chance to ask questions. This time we asked them “If you were in charge of confirmation next year, what would you do differently and what would you keep?” Our students favorite part of confirmation was meeting with their mentors. This is a long tradition at Faith and it is a wonderful thing. They also loved their teachers and felt like they had been prepared to make this step in their journey of faith. As for things they would change, more donuts, more couches and more interactive experiences. It seemed a pretty good review of our program of preparation for accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. This Sunday they will also be helping to lead worship.
We begin a new series this week called “Living Hope.” On Easter we celebrated the resurrection and the birth of hope. We will be reading out of the book of 1 Peter as we explore what the resurrection means for our lives.
I hope to see you in worship!
