Zombie Sunday?
We began our July series of Bizarre Bible stories last week with a focus on the very difficult passage about what sin caused the flood in Genesis 6. This week we tackle Matthew’s account of the death of Jesus and the tombs that were opened and the bodies of the saints that were raised and entered the Holy city. Sounds like zombies right? I find it fascinating that these few verses are not found in any of the other gospels. Join us Sunday as we explore why Matthew included this unusual event.
I want to remind everyone that July has five Sundays so we will be having our all church breakfast on the 30th. This is the Sunday that we will be celebrating Lori Burns (our Financial Secretary) and her 20 years of service to this congregation. We have started collecting gifts from those of you who will be out of town in the office and I wanted to say thank you for the extra effort to honor her while you are away. Also, if you would bring a breakfast casserole to go with the pancakes that morning we would really appreciate it!
We are working hard on the fall schedule and what will be offered for small groups. I am excited to share that Hospice Chaplain Stacy Reaves will be bringing a new monthly grief support group. Leah Boyd is also planning a group for parents of children who are nontypical learners. Both of these have incredible potential and fill a need that we have already seen in our congregation. Mark Hoskins will be bringing meditative movement designed to help people improve their balance. I don’t know about you but that is something that I need. And Judy Hammond and Carole Griffey are working on a lunch bunch group for fellowship and food. It’s exciting to see how God is working in our midst as we find ways to connect and support each other.
Lastly I will be bringing back a Wednesday night Bible study and we are going to be offering Disciple Bible study again this fall. If you are interested in teaching online or in person, please let me know. I would like to offer “Jesus and the Gospels” Disciple class because it has been many years since we have offered it.
Watch your mailboxes for the second quarter giving statements. They are going out today!
I can’t wait to see you on Sunday!
