Looking Towards Fall

While we are deeply in the midst of ministry, we are madly planning for the fall semester. One of the things that we have heard from the congregation is a deep yearning to be in groups with other people- to make connections. With that desire helping to guide us, we are planning more support type groups than we have offered previously. These groups will range from parenting non-typical children, to standing in grief together, to being a caregiver of a loved one whether a parent, spouse or differently abled child. A couple of the ladies are organizing to start a monthly pot luck luncheon and we are adding another exercise class for helping with balance.

In addition to these types of gatherings, we will also be registering soon for Disciple Bible studies. This is a wonderful front door for new members to get to know other members of the congregation and deepen their faith as they study the Bible. Pastor Seungrok and I will both be teaching this fall and we are planning a couple of other new classes for those who can’t commit to a twelve week course. DeRon will be launching a Young Adult Small Group that meets at 8:30 pm on Wednesday nights.

This Sunday we will be blessing the door hangers for the Block Party and passing them out to you. We will be praying over them that God leads us to those who need a community that is grace filled and loving like ours. I challenge you to take 2 and pray over who God wants you to give them too. I am also looking for a couple of people to walk the neighborhood with me early one day to hang them on the doors of our neighbors. It took me about an hour last year by myself. (Text me to let me know that you would like to help. )

We are tackling another misunderstood text from the Bible this week as we go to Leviticus 16 and consider the ritual of the scapegoat. I have discovered that some people refer to it as the “escape goat.” Our scripture involves several animals and the roles they play in this first Day of Atonement. This chapter of Leviticus is considered the most important one in the whole book. Join me on Sunday as we unpack this fascinating story from the Hebrew Bible.

Stay cool out there!
