Trusting God
I drove home at nine thirty last night after helping to put away VBS and was so thankful that I was not covered in chocolate sauce. For those of you who don’t know what I am talking about, the children raised money to plant trees and if they raised certain amounts than they got to “smore” someone. Usually, the people that get to be the reward are the staff. But this year several of our youth actually wanted to be the reward. Four of our youth helpers stood in for the staff. So EJ Smock who portrayed “Sam” all week got the honor of being the top reward which included chocolate sauce, graham cracker crumbs and mini marshmallows being poured over his head instead of mine. Seungrok and I looked at each other and gave thanks that it was not us.
Over 100 children participated in Camp Firelight and it was a very successful week. Our church stepped up and had so many volunteers to make this happen. I want to thank Erin Vierthaler who gave us a decade of leadership on the design team. I heard this was her last year but she said that last year too! If you would be willing to help with next year’s VBS design team, please email Linda and she will get you the information to help in that way. I also want to say thank you to all the people who gave of their evenings this last week. You were wonderful and we could not have done it without you.
Our Biblical theme for the week was “Trusting God.” I have decided to unpack some of the scriptures from the curriculum for the next two Sundays as we consider how hard it is to let go of our need to control and trust God to guide. This Sunday we will focus on David and next Sunday on Ruth. Both of these characters have stories of faith and trusting God.
I also want to lift up the Hardt family. I got word from Georgia that Charles went to heaven yesterday afternoon. I had gone on Wednesday to anoint him and pray with the family for a peaceful transition into heaven. The Hardts had moved away a few years ago due to his failing health and recently returned for his care. Georgia and Charles were surrounded by kids and grandkids during this transition. I will let you know if anything will be planned to celebrate his wonderful life.
If you are traveling for the summer, stay safe and join us online if you are able. You will be missed and we will rejoice when we are back together.
Love,
