Night Light Mission

Even though it wasn’t as hot as it has been last night, it was still hot. Thirty two members of Faith, both youth and adults, hosted the meal under the bridge for Night Light Tulsa. It was so hot that the cheese that I was attempting to put on the burgers was melted into a blob that made that (seemingly easy job) much more difficult. Four hundred hamburgers were made and given away to the guests under the bridge. I was so very pleased to see new members who had never tried serving in this way before enjoy themselves and make such a beautiful impact on hungry people.

This is the tenth year that this ministry has been serving and some of their volunteers come every Thursday night. Our youth have been at least ten times in the last year to serve. They love doing it and getting to know these neighbors. Seungrok and the mission team just voted to purchase a table at their Trivia Night fundraiser in September. Last year was the firs time that we did this and it was fun but we were not very good. If you would be willing to compete for Faith this year, please let Pastor Seungrok know. We have 10 seats available.

One of the most surprising things about serving with Night Light Tulsa is how many of the guests have dogs with them. These pets provide companionship and protection for them on the streets. Night Light now has a partnership with a pet supply ministry that also serves every Thursday under the bridge. As part of the City Lights organization, they also have a housing program and some of the folks who keep coming to these large meals now have housing but this is their community. Their family. They are also planning to create a tiny house community as stable low income housing for their guests.

Some of the other ways people serve at Night Light are by washing feet, painting fingernails, providing haircuts and reading to children. They give books away and provide clothing. They set up every week and take down with a precision that is like playing Tetras in the back of a box truck. Our adults stayed to the very end when those who were still there circled up and celebrated each other and gave thanks in prayer to God for allowing us to serve and be with God’s beloved children. It is a beautiful ministry and if you have never gone to serve, I hope that you and your friends or family will give it a try. You will be amazed.

Proud to have served beside you,
