Let the Celebration Begin!
Well Folks,
We made it. There are only a few days until Lent is finished for 2022. Sometimes it feels like we have been in Lent for the last three years with only glimpses of celebration around the waiting and the hoping. I don’t know about you, but this year feels different to me. I pray that you have found some strength of faith in the disciplines of morning prayer, wearing your cross and immersing yourselves in the Bible.
After our Palm Sunday worship celebrations, the Kid’s ministry is hosting the Easter egg hunt at 3 pm. Please bring a basket with your child to enjoy this fun time together.
Then I encourage you to bring your family for the Holy Week Experience prayer stations on Wednesday or Thursday from 1-8 pm. The Pastors will be offering Communion and we will break our Lenten fast. We are asking everyone to sign up for a slot so that you don’t have to wait for a turn in the stations and everyone is spaced out over the day. Drew Lyon, Mike Miller and I have worked hard to make these meaningful and interactive for all ages. You may need to read to your child for them to participate fully.
Eric Pollack is coordinating the team of people who will bring the large wooden cross into the sanctuary for our Good Friday service at 7 pm. We have a tradition of hanging our sins on this cross and it is a powerful service. We do not have a nursery for this service but the Suzanne Wesley room is available for families with small children.
On Easter, the youth are planning the Sunrise Service at 6:30 am and it will be the only service where we serve Communion that day. If it is raining, we will still gather but in the Narthex. Then we will celebrate at both the 9:00 am and the 11:00 am service with the bells bringing special music on that day. Kid’s Connect will be offered at both services on Easter.
One of our traditions at Faith (that we are bringing back) is the service project offered to everyone who attends. This year the mission committee has planned on Wednesday April 27th. They purchased 200 backpacks for our neighbors experiencing homelessness which we will fill with goodies. Then we will go to Night Light Tulsa on Thursday to hand out the backpacks and help serve a meal. You may ride the church vans that night with a reservation. Please check out all the details on the Connect page.
I keep encouraging the staff to do self care in this busy season so that we may enjoy the full spiritual blessings of remembering that first Easter and the unbelievable miracle that happened. I pray that you are also being careful with yourself and making room for the Holy. I look forward to being with you.
