Happy 45th Birthday Faith!!!

Nov. 12th is finally here and we are celebrating the forty- fifth anniversary of the chartering of our congregation as an official church. We are excited to look back at the history of our congregation as we vision for the future. Frieda Ferguson, Mike Miller, Steve and Amy Robbins are founding members of our congregation and are still wonderfully active leaders. They can tell you all kinds of funny stories about those early years.

Rev. Kip Wright was the pastor asked to start something in South Tulsa. He started knocking on doors and gathered up some folks to start meeting for worship in his home. After a while, he contracted with Holland Hall to use a space for worship but it was upstairs and another church was meeting downstairs. They discovered that some of the people that they had invited to church had accidentally gone to the church downstairs. They called themselves “Mission UMC.” On Nov. 12th, they chartered with their new name voted on by all the youth and adults “Faith UMC.”

Eventually the property that the church now sits on was donated and everyone thought it was crazy to build in the middle of nowhere! It was all just fields at that time.

Rev. Steven Spradling followed as the next pastor and he will be helping Seungrok and I lead worship on Sunday. We are so pleased that he would take the time to come back and serve us again. Our bell choir will also be playing in both services. I also have a few surprises for you all and hope that you will join us for a morning of celebration as the family of God. The displays of our church history will be coming down and going back into the archives so I encourage you to take some time to look through them this Sunday if you haven’t had the chance.

I want to give you the link to the video that we made for this anniversary. I hope that you will take the time to watch it. Click here.

After starting here in 2006 as the youth director, I would often say “The worse day at Faith is still better than being anywhere else. They are a church that you don’t have to convince to be like Jesus- they get it.”

I look forward to seeing you Sunday,

Faith Tulsa
